Frequently Asked Questions

(updated September 4, 2021)

1. Are there some winter diving opportunities for 2021-2022 that I can consider?

Winter diving opportunities at the Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center:

The Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center (in North Bethesda) offers 2 possible options:

a. Open diving for those who’d like to practice on their own.

Saturdays 2-4 pm, and 5-7 pm

Sundays 2-5 pm

See the schedule here: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/Resources/F...

b.Classes or a team:

Diving - Montgomery County Recreation - Montgomery County, Maryland (montgomerycountymd.gov)

Registration is at activemontgomery.org. I checked the registration web site, and it appears that all fall 2021 programs are already full. However, you could add yourself to a wait list, or try for a winter 2022 session.

Winter diving opportunities at the Wilson Aquatic Center

The Wilson Aquatic Center in DC is a beautiful indoor Olympic-sized pool conveniently located in Tenleytown.

As of September 10, 2021, the Wilson Aquatic Center is offering open dive on Saturdays from 12-2 pm.  This is a great location and facility, if you are available and interested in going to open dive!

Pre-COVID, the Wilson Aquatic Center used to offer open dive on Sundays from approximately 11:30 am to 4:00 pm.   Unfortunately, as of September 10, 2021, they are closed on Sundays and have been that way since 2020, presumably due to COVID.

2. What is the goal of the Little Falls Dive Team?

The goal is to provide a no-cut team for kids/teens (ages 18 & U) to learn some new dives, make some friends, have fun, and compete if they so choose.

3. What is the attendance requirement for a diver to join the team?

There is no particular requirement to attend practices.  You can still participate in the LF dive team, even if you have camp commitments, or go on vacation.

4: Does the LF Dive team offer competitions?

Yes, Little Falls is a member of the Montgomery County Dive League.  We currently participate in Division III of IV.  https://www.mcdiving.org/

We offer 5 regular-season meets per year (on Sundays at 4:00 pm).  For qualifying divers, there is also a Divisional Meet and an All-Star Meet.

5: Are divers required to participate in meets?

No.  We encourage all divers to try a meet if they would like.  But there is no requirement to do so.

This is a recreational league, and so divers of all levels are competing.  Even if you cannot yet do all of the dives for your age group, you can dive "exhibition" at a meet.  That means that you dive with your age group, but your scores do not count for place awards or team points.

6.  What are the different dives, such as jumps, lineups, and hurdles?

See the explanations in this handbook --

https://cms.mcdiving.org/wp-content/uploads/Handbo...
