Frequently Asked Questions

(updated July 27, 2023)

1. Are there some winter diving opportunities that I can consider?

Winter diving opportunities at the Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center:

The Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center (an indoor pool in North Bethesda) typically offers open diving sessions each weekend.  As of July 27, 2023, the Aquatic Center is not offering open diving sessions, due to a shortage of lifeguards.  However, when the fall session begins on September 5, 2023, the Aquatics Center hopes to be able to offer open diving on weekends (with two one-meter boards).

It's always advisable to call the pool before driving over, to double check to make sure that open dive is available.

The Montgomery Dive Club offers a team experience, and/or group lessons.

Registration for the fall session begins on August 14, 2023.  The Club also offers lessons in the winter and spring.

Winter diving opportunities at the Wilson Aquatic Center

The Wilson Aquatic Center in DC is a beautiful and relatively new (2009) indoor Olympic-sized pool conveniently located in Tenleytown.

If you would like to go and practice your divers, the pool has typically offered open dive on Saturdays from 12-2 pm.  This is a great location and facility, if you are available and interested in going to open dive!

The pool is sometimes closed for maintenance or staffing issues.  So it is helpful to call the pool before driving over there.  It has a wonderful dive facility, and is just a short drive from the LF neighborhood.

2. What is the goal of the Little Falls Dive Team?

The goal is to provide a no-cut team for kids/teens (ages 18 & U) to learn some new dives, make some friends, have fun, and compete if they so choose.

3. What is the attendance requirement for a diver to join the team?

There is no particular requirement to attend practices.  You can still participate in the LF dive team, even if you have camp commitments, or go on vacation.

4: Does the LF Dive team offer competitions?

Yes, Little Falls is a member of the Montgomery County Dive League.  We currently participate in Division III of IV.  https://www.mcdiving.org/

We offer 5 regular-season meets per year (on Sundays at 4:00 pm).  For qualifying divers, there is also a Divisional Meet and an All-Star Meet.

5: Are divers required to participate in meets?

No.  We encourage all divers to try a meet if they would like.  But there is no requirement to do so.

This is a recreational league, and so divers of all levels are competing.  Even if you cannot yet do all of the dives for your age group, you can dive "exhibition" at a meet.  That means that you dive with your age group, but your scores do not count for place awards or team points.

6.  What are the different dives, such as jumps, lineups, and hurdles?

See the explanations in this handbook --
